Union Gospel Mission

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is a non-profit organization that specializes in rehabilitaion and care of the homeless community in the Seattle area. Among many unique programs and activities, Search and Resuce vans are sent out nightly to visit parks and street corners to give food and provisions to those living on the streets. This is a volunteer-based program which is supported and funded by the mission and their donors. The hope is that by reaching out to the homeless in the community they will be encouraged to take part in the free rehabilitation program at UGM and make positive changes in their life and usher them into the life-changing community of Jesus Christ.

Noise Walk

-airplane -water dripping -rain -gutter rushing -cars splashing through puddles -cars honking -cars driving -shoes on concrete -doors opening -milk being steamed -shots being made -cash register opening -ice being scooped -fridge opening/shutting -girls talking -pens writing -papers -boots in hallway -water fountain -people sipping -laughing -radio -birds chirping -backpack zipping -people taking orders -people watching tv -sink runing -toilet flushing I never realized how many noises go on around me. It is easy to become unaware of your surroundings. By being blindfolded I was able to tune into all of the noises in the background. There is so much depth to the simple sounds that are in every day life. We really are never in silence. Even though I didnt see where I was, I always knew because of the noises. I could tell I was in the coffee shop, or in a bathroom, or outside. I associated noises with their surroundings. It was so interesting to realize the things that I so easily miss in my daily routine.
